The Excell Sports Beginning

ABOUT EXCELL SPORTS

Founded in 2004, Excell Sports has been a part of the communities of South Carolina for 15 years. Although Excell Sports is proud to call the city of Greenville home, we are fortunate to have families and support in nearby cities across our beautiful, southern state.

When we began our company in 2004, we had no idea the impact it would have on our athletes, both present and future.  Our company began with the infantry stages of lacrosse in South Carolina.  As Shane was a veteran volleyball coach, he had little knowledge of the lacrosse game when it arrived in the upstate of our Palmetto State in the fall of 2004.  Being a quick study of the game, he led the Greenville High School lacrosse team to the State Championships the first and second year where they lost at their first two attempts of State Title. Understanding the newness of the lacrosse game to the state of South Carolina and with an awareness that no athlete's game would get  better - or 'excel' - without off-season practice, Excell Sports was developed.

With the company's philosophy designed to grow the skill of the player's game during the off season, combined with the desire to help define a young man's character year-round, the early success of Excell Sports was unparallel.  Excell Sports pioneered the lacrosse "off season" of coaching young men to their fullest. The third year brought much of the same success, but with a different outcome ~ This third year began the consecutive winning run of 5 State Championship titles for lacrosse; a record that is, to date, still unmatched and undefeated.

During this infantry stage of lacrosse, Shane remained a seasoned and steadfast volleyball coach, taking his volleyball team to multiple State Playoff Games.  It was during this time that volleyball parents began asking Shane to create something similar to Excell Sports Lacrosse for their volleyball athletes.  Having a young family at home, the plan for Excell Sports Volleyball didn't come to fruition until 2015.

Being an experienced volleyball player and Coach, Shane was determined to create a volleyball program that offered unparalleled coaching, with an emphasis on the fundamentals as well as an atmosphere that helped young athletes 'excel' at both their game and their character. Following in the footprints of the company's philosophy and with the correct staff in place, it didn't take long for the company to find continued success in both the indoor, and outdoor, game of volleyball.

Launched in 2015, Excell Sports Club Volleyball became a force on the scene.  Sticking to its' humble roots and small roster, Excell Sports Volleyball made a run to the Nationals and made headway in the grass and beach volleyball scene. To date, Excell 'Storm' Volleyball remains the only program in the upstate that offers a volleyball athlete training in all areas of volleyball:  the indoor club arena, independent grass and sand training as well as grass and sand tournaments ~ all from the same company.

With a history of excellence, multiple newspaper articles, success stories, parent and player testimonials, and works within the community, local companies began to take notice. Partnerships were easily formed. Both local and national companies wanted to become a part of the success story that is Excell Sports.  Partnering with the City of Greenville, the County of Greenville, Easley Parks and Recs, US Lacrosse and Volley America (now AVP America), Excell Sports continues to grow the game for both lacrosse and volleyball athletes.  Excell Sports has hosted charity fundraisers for the SC Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and raised money to sponsor athletes with incredible skill but limited financial resources.

During the summer of 2017, Excell Sports partnered with Sidewall Pizza Company, Mitchell Ramseur, LLC, several anonymous donors, and multiple lacrosse parents to raise over $8,000 for lacrosse athletes to train and attend summer travel team recruiting tournaments.  Six of these athletes have since received college letters with offers to play at well-known Universities.  In late summer of 2017, Excell Sports hosted a six-week grass league for volleyball players with some of the proceeds going towards volleyball athletes and their club tryout fees/dues/tuitions.   This fall, Excell Sports continues to help the volleyball game by striving to grow the boys' side of the sport.

As our company continues to grow and help young athletes, we are continuously looking for companies that want to partner to help provide opportunities to athletes with limited financial resources. Our tiered sponsorship package identifies the different levels one can invest and partner with Excell Sports. If you are a company who identifies with our company philosophy and would like to know more about the opportunity to partner with Excell Sports, please contact us.
